Yavneh defeated Mc Kinney Christian 63-29 Tuesday night. The win improves the Bulldogs record to 10-3.
No third quarter heroics were needed Tuesday as Junior Jordan Prescott highlighted a sizzling Yavneh shooting display with 24 points on 10/12 from the field as the Bulldogs crushed a stunned Mc Kinney Christian community. Missing more shots in the extended pregame warm ups than in the actual game, Yavneh scorched the nets at 75% shooting and ran their winning streak to 7 games.
A special night for Prescott seemed in store right from the very first possession as he snatched a quick steal and converted it into an Elan Kogutt lay-in at the other end. Just like the energy the Bulldogs had been exerting to start third periods of late, tonight it was evident from the very beginning. Already sporting a 10-point lead, Yavneh got a buzzer delivery from Sophomore Josh Lynn from downtown Mc Kinney to end the first period of play. There would be no let-up to start the second quarter as Prescott exploded for an 11-0 personal run to single-handedly take over the game. A pair of three pointers, an old-fashioned three point play, and a layup later had the Bulldogs in full command at 29-5. Prescott finished the first half with 19 points on 8/10 shooting. As a team, Yavneh shot 75% and only turned the ball over 4 times.
Truly a night that the Bulldogs could have picked their score, the rout continued into the second half. Freshman Adam Karnett converted 4 steals into a pair of transition layups and a trip to the free throw line, and Senior Zev Klein’s acrobatic circus shot from the middle of the painted area sealed the deal at 53-20 through three periods of play. The fourth stanza belonged to Senior Shimi Wolk, delivering on 3/4 layups for 6 points. The 75% shooting for the game combined with a season-low 8 turnovers made for the highest Bulldog output of the year to this point. During the streak, no team has broken 50 points vs. Yavneh and Mc Kinney would have needed that plus some to stay competitive on this night.
Prescott led all scorers with the 24 points and missed only two deep shots. Josh Lynn added 8 and missed only a single shot himself. Even the free throws were finally finding the net (4/5) for a pleasant change of pace. Yavneh (10-3) will play Miller Grove Public High School next Tuesday night. A win could result in a 9-game winning streak to end the semester with a rematch vs Mc Kinney Christian the only other hurdle to follow.
