Rambam of Baltimore 42-29

Yavneh defeated Yeshivat Rambam of Baltimore 42-29 Monday afternoon. The win improves the Bulldogs record to 16-12.

Yavneh licked their wounds and recovered over Rambam Baltimore Monday in a game they had to have for confidence entering the season’s final stretch. A team collaborative effort was nice to see amidst the least desirable of circumstances. Rambam started 5-0 and 10-2 before the Bulldogs showed up but after that it was all Yavneh. With Sophomore Jordan Prescott out (cough) and Elan Kogutt struggling with the aftermath of Sunday, the team needed a player to step up. Post Ben Romaner was that guy, scoring the first five points. His three point play after turning away a series of Rambam attempts ignited an 8-0 run to completely erase the early deficit by quarter’s end. The tie was nice considering the Bulldogs had been outshot 57% to 26% but they had attempted over double the shots and grabbed 5 offensive boards (most by Romaner). The run continued in the second period and reached 16-0 on the back of reserve guard Kevin Sulski. The ball moved with more speed and frequency than it had all weekend long and Sulski was a huge part of that feat. Similar to a strong but tiny energy drink, he racked up 6 points, 2 rebounds, and an assist to complete the 21-2 run capping the first half. Romaner finished the half with 9 points and 7 rebounds, and Senior Josh Karnett took 2 charges to support the cause.

The second half was not competitive as Rambam continued to turn the ball over in exorbitant fashion. Senior Captain Miles Pulitzer essentially sealed the game with a pair of steal/layups, and the team cruised to victory from there. Kogutt led all scorers with 14 points, scoring nearly all of them in a nice second half performance. All players saw action in the feel good game that gives the team a 3-2 Maryland record this weekend.

Yavneh (16-12) is scheduled to play Miller Grove Public High School back in Dallas on Saturday night with travel plans pending.
