HSAA defeated Yavneh 58-46 Thursday evening. The loss drops the Bulldogs record to 23-7.
The ball just would not go in the basket. Yavneh made just 15 out of their 54 shot attempts, including 3/18 from the three point line. Meanwhile, HSAA again scored on many easy baskets en route to a second comfortable victory against the Bulldogs. HSAA did their damage early, busting out with an 18-9 first quarter. The starting back court torched the Bulldogs for 12 quick points. Three costly turnovers plagued Yavneh as well. The lead was briefly cut to 5 points in the second quarter but the easy HSAA points coupled with the inability to get David Naxon the basketball did not help. Naxon had 14 first half points but on just 4/14 shooting. The spread was 8 points at the half but the Bulldog shooting was just terrible. The lead mushroomed to 16 in the mid-third quarter. Much like the HANC game, the lead never was lower than a healthy 8 points. A 9-4 run to end the third quarter gave Yavneh hope but a barrage of HSAA offensive rebounds quashed that in the early fourth quarter. Naxon’s 18 points led all scorers but was not enough to do anything more than leave Yavneh on the edge of striking distance. Three HSAA players scored in double figures as did Yavneh Senior Erez Krengel with his 11 points on 2/16 shooting. All around, it was just a poor outing for the Bulldogs against a good team.
Yavneh (23-7) will finish the regular season at home against Temple Christian Monday night. The first meeting was not competitive with the Bulldogs coasting to victory.
