The Home School Athletic Association defeated Yavneh 61-40 Monday evening. The loss drops the Bulldogs record to 17-5.
Yavneh never got it going Monday night in their worst shooting performance of the year by far. The Bulldogs shot 9/40 from the floor and missed an alarming 11 free throws in being handled by HSAA. In addition to out-shooting their opponent, HSAA also controlled the boards 43-20. They were a menace on the offensive glass all night and controlled Yavneh at both ends of the floor. Yavneh’s David Naxon did not make a field goal for the first time this year, missing on all of just 5 attempts. HSAA busted out 13-1 in the opening quarter by taking advantage of the Bulldogs first nine shots missing the target. The combination of HSAA offensive rebounds and the horrific Yavneh shooting left no hope from that point forward. The lead would be trimmed to 24-17 early in the second quarter but a subsequent 7-0 HSAA run ended any comeback hopes for the rest of the night. The lead was 33-19 at the half with Yavneh shooting 3/21 (14%) and missing eight free throws. A bruised and battered Bulldog squad limped to the finish by misfiring on several jump shots. HSAA point guard Jordan Martin led all scorers with 20 points. Senior Erez Krengel paced the Bulldogs with 13 points.
Yavneh (17-5) has no time to fret as Covenant comes to the SR Center tomorrow evening. Last season, Covenant destroyed Yavneh at their place on a snowy North Texas night. The Bulldogs have had this game circled all year and understand that the season may be on the line Tuesday. A win against Covenant is just the kick start they need heading to a big tournament in Houston next week.
