Pheonix Charter 52-20

Yavneh defeated Phoenix Charter School 52-20 Thursday evening. The win improves the Bulldogs record to 13-1. That is the best record to start a Yavneh season in school history.

2008 started just as the previous year ended…another Bulldog victory. Yavneh used all of their available roster to pick apart the under-manned, smaller, and less-talented charter school. The win was a great way to ease back from the break, and prepare the Bulldogs for an extremely tough month. The Yavneh starters lasted only 4+ minutes, surging to a quick 10-0 lead. Clicking on all cylinders, they scored on 4 of their first 5 field goal attempts. In complete control of the boards and the game, the Bulldogs led 21-2 after a quarter. The 31 points the rest of the way, however, was the most heartening thing that came from Thursday’s contest. The bench players played heavy minutes and played rather well. Guard Ilan Attar led all scorers with 11 points, all in the second half. Post Ethan Prescott pounded away down low for 9 hard-earned points (career high). Freshman Shimi Wolk tallied 4 points but grabbed an insane 11 rebounds. Meanwhile, Sophomores Joe Lerer and Miles Pulitzer recorded 14 rebounds and 7 assists respectively. It was a nice effort to rebound from a game in which the same group had produced no points for an entire two quarters. The lead reached 30 points late in the third quarter and the game was never in doubt.

Yavneh (13-1) will play on the road both games next week. The first will come at a dangerous Lewisville Temple Christian barn. Over the last two years, three of the four meetings have come down to the final minutes.
