North Dallas High School of the DISD defeated Yavneh 73–24 Tuesday evening to drop the Bulldogs record to 8-3. Box Score enclosed. It was the biggest Yavneh loss to a school other than St. Marks since current University of Texas star Sophomore Lamarcus Aldridge’s Seagoville squad bounced the Bulldogs in 2001.
For the second straight season, North Dallas’s mammoth big man Shedrick Ferrall was stuck on the bench for most of the game versus Yavneh Academy. Last year, mired in foul trouble for the majority of the game, Ferrall fouled out in the 4th en route to a Yavneh victory over the hot headed Bulldogs from North Dallas. Tuesday night was a different story as the other Bulldogs were victorious in such a big way that Ferrall barely saw the court after his big first quarter. Despite the early exit, Ferrall finished with a game-high 17 points and 11 rebounds. He was an absolute tank that Yavneh had no answers for. Michael Holland added 13 for North Dallas along with 10 from Jeff Nash, including a riveting dunk over Yavneh post Sam Pulitzer. The first half was damaging, with ND taking control 21-6 mostly on lay ups by the big men. Yavneh could never provide enough help down low to stop Ferrall, who truly was a “Man among Boys”. As the score reached 50-14 early in the third quarter, North Dallas started clearing the bench. Yavneh’s offense picked up a little bit but the score kept worsening as turnovers turned into 2 points on the North Dallas scoreboard consistently. In all, the Bulldogs donning the headgear turned the ball over 22 times and shot an extremely ineffective 7-42 (16.7%). David Naxon finished with 12 points but struggled mightily along with the guards, who went 1-13 from 3-point range. The story of the game may very well have been in the paint, where Yavneh was outscored 62-10.
Yavneh will try to re group Thursday against Lakehill.
