Lakehill Prep defeated Yavneh 60-42 Friday afternoon to drop the Bulldogs record to 9-4.
The second half of Yavneh’s season did not get off to a good start just 2 days before the calendar year of 2006 begins.. They were manhandled by a seemingly manageable group from Lakehill Prep School. It may have been a couple weeks since Yavneh’s last game but they picked up right where they left off with major turnover issues. 22 turnovers and extraordinarily bad shot selection fueled several Lakehill runs in bouncing the Bulldogs right off their home floor. Lakehill got off to an 8-2 start before several Bulldog players were benched. At that point, Lakehill rolled off 9 straight points to take command 17-2. While the Yavneh regulars came back to start the second quarter, they could not crack the Lakehill zone. Lakehill led 34-22 at the half. Yavneh’s defense came out strong to start the second half. They limited Lakehill to no points in the first 6:30 of the third quarter, trimming the lead to 34-31 behind the inside play of David Naxon. A turnover and a long Yavneh missed three pointer turned the tide. At that point, however Lakehill used the two breakaway baskets that resulted to go on a game-clinching 14-3 run. It was never close again as Yavneh could not find any consistency on offense. David Naxon scored 22 and Josh Abrams added 17 for the Bulldogs but they shot 4-16 from 3 point range. Mike Morrison, Andrew Simpson, and Derek True all scored in double figures for Lakehill.
Yavneh will be off until Tuesday night.
