Adamson defeated Yavneh 78-59 Monday evening to drop the Bulldogs record to 9-7.
One bad quarter once again did in the Bulldogs en route to a 78-59 defeat to Adamson of the DISD. Adamson used all of their 16 players to wear down Yavneh, who played only their starting 5. It would have been easy for the Bulldogs to roll over to the bigger, quicker, and deeper public school. They did not do that. For the first time in 2006, Yavneh once again played inspired basketball. Yavneh was ready to go right from the tip-off with Erez Krengel drawing a three-shot foul in the opening minute. That would be a formula for Yavneh’s success Monday night. They drew 20 personal fouls and shot 29 free throws that added up to 22 points. (37% of their total offense) David Naxon had much success early in the game getting production inside and at the foul line as a result of Naxon’s dominance inside. The score was tied at 16 after a quarter. The second quarter was the problem quarter Monday. Yavneh was outscored 21-4 in the quarter. Turnovers, poor decisions, and again bad shot selection once again contributed to ineptness on the offensive end. That turned into easy baskets at the other end, and as halftime hit the Bulldogs were in a 37-20 hole. Yavneh was able to put the second quarter behind them and make a legitimate run at Adamson in the second half. Josh Abrams and David Naxon were able to tough it out in the third quarter, getting physical with Adamson and went straight to the free throw line consistently. The lead was cut to 49-39 and 53-42 before fatigue ultimately did them in. David Naxon registered another double-double, scoring 32 points to go along with his 12 rebounds. Naxon reportedly was disappointed when informed that his 11 turnovers did not qualify him for his first career triple-double. Josh Abrams added 14 hard-earned points, and Erez Krengel came from nowhere to score 8 points in what many are hesitantly calling his “coming-out party”. Also of note, Sam Pulitzer took a huge charge during the Yavneh 2nd half run that energized the team. Additionally, Adamson Senior Brandon Wilson entertained the crowd with a first quarter rim rocking dunk.
Yavneh (9-7) will try to carry the momentum from playing Adamson practically even for 3 quarters Monday night to their next game at Dallas Academy Thursday evening. The Bulldogs have never lost to Dallas Academy.
