Yavneh defeated Lucas Christian 53-37 Thursday night. The win improves the Bulldogs record to 10-4.
Jordan Prescott punished Lucas Christian with 33 points as Yavneh brushed off a sluggish beginning to roll Thursday and finish a perfect 4 win week. The early 4:30pm start time and a dim gymnasium once again had the Bulldogs searching for answers down 8-6 halfway through the opening period. Prescott and no one else had shown up early. Lucas was allowed to patiently execute their offense in the halfcourt and they did just that. Defensively, they clogged the lane and baffled Yavneh in the first period. The Bulldogs held a slim 14-12 lead after eight minutes and another war seemed imminent on enemy turf. Prescott really turned it on in the second quarter, connecting on a triple and then finally driving the ball to the basket. Two more three pointers from the wing opened the game up 25-16. The 19-8 run was almost exclusively Prescott, shooting 10/16 from the field for 27 points in the first half. A Kevin Sulski steal from three feet above ground with one arm polished off a 31-21 halftime lead for Yavneh.
Lucas Christian had given their best shot and was still down by double digits. The third quarter saw Yavneh’s pressure defense demoralize LC and end the game with a decisive 17-2 run. David Rudomin and Adam Steinbrecher helped Prescott by connecting on back to back long range hits. That offensive success combined with a tiring home team sunk the ship permanently and ave the Bulldogs a coast to the finish. All available players saw action and earned the upcoming three days off after four games in as many days. Adam Karnett, however, missed his third straight game as his shoulder issues are being evaluated by a team of specialists nationwide.
9 offensive rebounds was a far cry from the 27 a night ago but still a cause for concern against the week interior presence of Lucas Christian. 21 turnovers also raised serious doubts, although several occurred after the game had been decided. Yavneh (10-4) has now reeled off 5 in a row since Houston but faces a tough two game stretch before Wednesday of next week. 4A Anna High School comes to town Monday night to play a highly anticipated game that has been in the works for several years. Another gritty public school will await Tuesday for a road test in Avalon.
