Dallas International 55-26

Yavneh defeated Dallas International School 55-26 Tuesday night. The win improves the Bulldogs record to 1-1.

What a difference a day makes. Yavneh showed off their depth in dissecting Dallas International School wire to wire Wednesday evening. The more athletic Bulldogs were able to dictate the tempo the entire way and even their early-season record in preparation for a busy upcoming week.

While Yavneh fell behind Tuesday in their season opener, tonight was a completely different story. The much anticipated scoring duo of Jordan Prescott and Adam Karnett came to play early on this night. Prescott’s corner triple fueled a 9-0 start less than halfway through the opening period. It was Karnett, however, who turned three consecutive steals into layups on his way to a 10 point first quarter barrage. In fact, the Sophomore outscored his 8 point opener in just 6 short minutes. The Bulldogs held a 19-4 advantage after one period, allowing not one field goal to DIS during that time. Senior Captain Jake Greif solidified the advantage early in the second quarter with a monster tip-in off Sophomore Jason Epstein’s shot-pass. With the starting unit being used scarcely if at all the rest of the way, the Bulldogs maintained a double digit lead the entire game. They led 29-12 at halftime but were actually outshot 37-36% from the field. Turnovers were once again a key but this time Yavneh was the recipient in that category.

Coasting to the finish, Yavneh saw DIS make their big run towards the end of the third quarter. Adam Mellon connected on two deep three pointers as the Bulldog lead was trimmed to 33-21 in a flash. With the starting unit beginning to stir on the bench, Sophomore David Rudomin responded with a huge corner triple of his own to pump the lead back to 15 points. The threat was over, this time for good. The final period consisted of a Freshman showcase. Ori Guttman tallied most of his co team-high 10 points with a variety of inside and outside moves that included a deep three ball. He also ignited the put-away 16-0 run with a full court pass to Jason Epstein for a finish at the rim. That run was capped by Freshman Meir Epstein’s first two high school field goals in the form of a double dose dynamic power post move series. If your last name was Epstein you scored during the run. Zak Schultz and Adam Steinbrecher also logged heavy fourth quarter minutes, combining for 7 points and 5 assists. Karnett and Ori Guttman paced Yavneh with 10 points a piece while Itai Guttman chipped in with 7.

It is probably a fair assessment that this Bulldog team is not nearly as challenged as they looked on Opening Night nor will they breeze by opponents like Game #2. A great indication of the identity of this team will be on display in the coming 11 days. Yavneh (1-1) will play at Thomas Jefferson Public High School Monday night before hosting Cambridge on Tuesday and travelling to Houston for a big early season tournament. We are 11 days removed from learning quite a bit about the ability, mettle, and mental toughness of this group. Can Prescott and Karnett anchor the offense consistently? Will the trio of big men live up to the expectations that bill them as a driving force of this team? Which underclassmen will solidify a rotation in desperate need for complementary producers?

ONLY TIME WILL TELL!!
