Yavneh defeated Dallas Academy 55-43 Thursday evening. The win improves the Bulldogs record to 10-1.
There would no collapse or high drama on this night as Senior David Naxon contributed 20 points in just 13 minutes and Yavneh cruised to a nice, comfortable victory. All 14 active players logged minutes and contributed in the box score. It was a welcome change to the night-in, night-out drama that is the 2007-2008 Bulldog season. Dallas Academy continued their holiday gift shopping by handing Yavneh the ball eight times in falling behind 22-5. Naxon was able to flush the ball once again in tallying 10 quick first quarter points. The starters were basically finished at 31-7 eleven minutes into the game. Freshman Shimi Wolk literally banked his first successful Yavneh free throw and Jared Katz collected the first two of what will surely be many Bulldog rebounds in his career. 35-14 was the halftime score, and it was cruise control the rest of the way with a variety of different rotations. Freshman Elan Kogutt scored 12 points, including knocking down several of his patented baseline jumpers from nearly behind the basket. Opponents seem to have a difficult time finding Kogutt towards the other side of the backboard. Sophomore Josh Karnett recorded only a single point but found the hardwood floor on more than five occasions. The lead got as low as 12 in the second half but never to single digits. The only reason for the score remaining fairly close was Yavneh’s inability to grab a defensive rebound. Dallas Academy collected 19 offensive rebounds but could not even make 30% of their shots. This inability to score somewhat negated the dominance they had on the offensive boards. Dustin Boothe led Dallas Academy with 10 points. The lack of rebounding has been a problem all year, specifically since the injury of Senior Michael San Soucie. Also of note, Yavneh combined to block a season-high five shots. For the second time this season, the Bulldogs players were able to rally in the absence of their head coach. Chris Walker once again stepped in valiantly, also setting a Texas private school record with three recorded head-coaching victories in one evening.
Yavneh (10-1) will play at Lucas Christian next Thursday night. While Yavneh handled LC already this season, they will make a return to the gym where just last year needed an Erez Krengel buzzer beating three pointer to squeak out an emotional victory.

CHASING HISTORY
This year’s 2007-2008 yavneh bulldogs are now just 2 wins away from the best start in yavneh history. They are chasing the 2000-2001 team led by the likes of noam scott, sam fine, david Abrams, and sophomores itzy ribald, gavi wolk, and joseph belleli. They lost their second game after starting
11-1.
At 10-1, the bulldogs play lucas Christian next Thursday evening in allen, texas.
On December 5, 2000, 10-1 Yavneh {fresh off a thorough pounding of Heritage Christian 69-36} went into Logos Academy and came away with a 47-25 victory. Itzy Ribald shook off a terrible first quarter to score 25 points and grab 16 rebounds to lead the Bulldogs. Joseph Belleli came off the bench to score 8 important points. The 11-1 record is the best standing start in Yavneh history. The 07-08 will look to tie that record in a week’s time.
