North Hills defeated Yavneh 66-43 Tuesday evening to drop the Bulldogs record to 14-13.
After overtime of the first meeting, The North Hills School knew they had one taken away from them. They most certainly marked February I on their calendars. Only one team truly showed up at the gym for that second meeting. North Hills passed to themselves off the rim and backboard all evening in embarrassing the Bulldogs 66-43 Tuesday night. It was one of the most dominating rebounding performances for one team in either team’s history. In total, North Hills out-rebounded Yavneh 50-29 but that included an almost unbelievable 27 offensive rebounds. The Bulldogs were in trouble right from the opening tip as guard Cory Colvin, who was electric all evening, glided to an uncontested lay-up 5 seconds into the contest. North Hills built a 16 11 lead after a quarter, grabbing 9 offensive rebounds and using 5 Yavneh turnovers to create easy, uncontested baskets. The lead grew to 24-14 with 4:44 to play in the first half. Seniors Amitai Scott and Josh Abrams turned the tide with three pointers. Helped also by Junior Aviv Schor’s offensive contributions, the Bulldogs were able to draw even at the break at 26-26. The halftime tie was quite improbable considering the 22 first half North Hills offensive rebounds. Atrocious shooting from the field by NH kept the score close but Yavneh would have to match the intensity level to compete in the second half. They did not. Out of bounds plays, offensive efficiency, and the poor play of Sophomore David Naxon pushed North Hills on top early in the second half. Naxon led Yavneh with 16 points but struggled all evening and shot just 6-17 from the field. The lead grew to 46-33 at the end of the third quarter. The Bulldogs were able to get to the free throw line with regularity in the first half but North Hills committed nary a foul after halftime. North Hills kept putting it on in the fourth quarter as the lead grew to 20 at 56-36 with 6:06 to go. Yavneh’s players were clearly spent from playing 7 games in 7 days. They will have plenty of rest now as the next game is in over a week. Yavneh was outscored 40-17 in the second half. Aviv Schor chipped in 10 points for Yavneh but Colvin of North Hills was the story of the night. He tallied a game-high 21 points and Joseph Voeller grabbed 16 big rebounds on Senior night.
