Yavneh defeated Temple Christian School 47-27 Thursday evening. The win improves the Bulldogs record to 17-4.
Yavneh breezed through Thursday night as the majority of the regular starters played just two minutes. Starting a lineup of nearly all reserves, the Bulldogs quickly fell behind 6-0 after three minutes. That same group caught Temple Christian at 7-6 three minutes after that, and never looked back. The first quarter was as ugly as they come with a 9-6 score. For the second straight game, the Yavneh opponent shot an efficient percentage in the opening period. Both times, however, that opponent was also plagued with the turnover bug–8 on this occasion. A 20+ turnover game again gifted the Bulldogs to an easy win. The lead blossomed to 20-6 halfway through the second quarter. Both teams shot poorly but Yavneh controlled shooting %, rebounds, turnovers, and nearly every other statistical category. Freshman Elan Kogutt and Temple Christian’s Malcolm Smith tied with a game-high 11 points. Yavneh sophomores Ethan Prescott and Ilan Attar supported with 8 & 7 points respectively. Freshman Jared Katz exploded for 8 offensive rebounds in just 10 minutes. His mammoth hands paid big dividends and may have given a glimpse of the power rebounder that Katz may become. The perfect week was just what the doctor ordered for the Bulldogs as a killer schedule awaits next week with HSAA and Covenant.
Yavneh (17-4) will play HSAA Monday night. The game should be an absolute battle as HSAA returns almost their entire roster from the team that played two games to the wire with the Bulldogs last season. With only 2+ weeks until Yavneh travels to Houston for their first litmus test on how they might do at the YU Tournament, it is important to learn, grow, and tweak with each passing game.
